HubSpot sells hubs. Pipedrive sells pipeline. Close sells calls. Transit sells the whole job.

An honest side-by-side for sole traders and small service firms who are tired of unlocking modules before they can invoice — or living in a dialer that can’t finish the money loop.

Full product. No credit card. Solo from $19/mo.

Why operators leave the usual suspects

  1. 01

    Hub stacking tax

You needed an invoice, not another hub. Feature gates turn a “CRM” into a shopping cart.

  2. 02

    Pipeline without payday

Deals look great on a board — until the quote, contract, and payment live in three other tabs.

  3. 03

    AI as an upsell

Assistants that can only summarize while the real work stays manual — or sit behind a credit meter SKU.

Job-by-job comparison

Rows are buyer jobs — not checkbox theater. “Partial” means it exists via a hub, add-on, integration, or lighter depth. Verify competitor packaging on their sites; it changes.

Who should pick what

Clear recommendations beat fake “we win everything” tables.

Pick Transit if…

  • You’re a sole trader or small service firm (trades, salon, agency, field service)
  • You need quotes, invoices, contracts, and tickets without unlocking “hubs”
  • You want Piper included — not a separate AI line item
  • You care about getting paid from the same system (Stripe Connect, 0% Transit fee)
  • You’d rather grow by seats than by module upgrades

Pick HubSpot if…

  • Inbound marketing, content, and attribution are the center of your business
  • You’re ready to buy (and admin) multiple Hubs as you grow
  • You want a free CRM entry point and a huge integration marketplace
  • Enterprise reporting and marketing ops matter more than job-site money loop

Pick Pipedrive if…

  • You only need a clean sales pipeline and activity tracking
  • Invoicing, contracts, and delivery live happily in other tools
  • Your team is pure sales — not service delivery + billing

Pick Close if…

  • Outbound calling / SMS is how you win every day
  • You want a dialer-first CRM more than quote→invoice→contract
  • Your “product” is conversations, not field jobs and retainers

Honest tradeoffs

Pages that pretend competitors have no strengths convert worse — and they deserve to.

Where HubSpot still wins

Marketing depth, free CRM on-ramp, and a massive ecosystem. If you’re building a content/inbound machine, HubSpot’s hubs are purpose-built for that — and Transit is intentionally lighter on marketing automation.

Where Close still wins

Native calling and outbound velocity. Transit is not a power-dialer CRM. If your day is dials and SMS sequences, Close is sharper for that motion.

Where Pipedrive still wins

Dead-simple pipeline focus for sales-only teams. If you don’t need invoices or contracts in the CRM, Pipedrive stays pleasantly narrow.

Pricing posture (not a gotcha sheet)

Transit numbers are ours. Competitor notes are directional — always confirm on their site. Last reviewed September 2026.

Transit plans

Transit

Solo $19/mo · Team $59/mo · Business $129/mo · Scale $249/mo

  • Full product on every plan + 30-day trial (no card)
  • Extra seats $10/mo — not a feature gate
  • Piper included · Transit 0% on customer payments
  • Annual = 2 months free

Others (verify live)

  • HubSpot — Free CRM on-ramp; paid Hubs and seats stack as marketing/sales depth grows. Onboarding fees appear on higher tiers. Best for inbound platforms — budget for hubs, not just “CRM.”
  • Pipedrive — Per-seat pipeline plans with feature tiers. Simple if you only need deals/activities; commerce usually elsewhere.
  • Close — Per-seat plans oriented around calling/SMS usage and AI credits. Strong when conversations are the product.

We don’t invent competitor dollar amounts here. Their public pricing pages are the source of truth.

Trust

Security without the compliance cosplay

You still need to know how we treat customer data — just not as a dead-end nav item.

Tenant isolation

Workspace data is scoped to your account. Other customers don’t see your records.

Cards stay on hosted checkout

Subscriptions and invoice pay links use Stripe-hosted flows. Transit doesn’t store card numbers.

Signed-in product + audit trail

Sensitive billing actions leave structured audit events. No query-string auth theater.

Honest claims only

We don’t invent SOC-2 badges or fake testimonials. Trust is in how we build.

Comparison FAQs

Is Transit “better” than HubSpot?
Not for everyone. Transit is better when you need the full service operating loop — relationships, pipeline, quotes, invoices, contracts, tickets — on one price. HubSpot is better when inbound marketing and hub-scale automation are the product.
Do you lock features behind higher plans?
No. Solo through Scale include the full product. You grow with seats ($10/mo extra) and soft usage meters (CRM records, file storage, Piper requests) — not Marketing Hub / Sales Hub style gates. See Pricing for the numbers per plan.
What about AI?
Piper is included on every plan and the trial. She can do essentially what a human can in the CRM, with write policies and Apply confirmation on high-risk actions. Soft request meters apply — it’s not a paid AI add-on.
How do payments compare?
Transit: guided Stripe Connect in Settings → Payments, hosted invoice pay links, Transit takes 0% (Stripe’s fees still apply). Competitors often push payments to apps, hubs, or external tools — verify on their pricing pages.
Can I switch without a six-week project?
Start with a 30-day full-product trial (no card). Import companies/contacts via CSV. Piper walks create flows. We don’t invent fake migration stats — try the loop on a real job this week.
